Boutique Qi Chargers
Concept Development | Material Exploration | Business Development
This was a personal project that I derived a great deal of joy and learning out of. The idea came from the realization that even very high-end hotels tend to be saddled with boring, off-the-shelf power and charging options which creates a real record-scratch moment within these very carefully designed environments.
I wanted to see if I could come up with a way of developing charging solutions that could be made in small quantities utilizing natural and beautiful materials that could be more closely aligned with rooms and spaces that they live in.

in order to keep costs in check, I needed to devise an internal power solution that could be used across a variety of designs, forms and materials. Solving for this challenge allowed me to explore the use of ceramics, metals, and woods. Aside from the natural beauty of these materials, they also allowed me to provide very different results with the same tools and materials through the use of glazes, stains and metal variations.
The opportunity to work with experts and manufacturers in each of the specialized materials was fantastic and helped drive and focus the designs.

Over the period of this project, I was introduced to several individuals who had decades of experience and knowledge in the high-end hospitality industry and with their input and counsel I gained a great deal understanding how this industry operates and what is important to the many key stake-holders.
Ultimately however, for a variety of reasons, the business case did not make the right sense to move forward with. Despite this decision, it was a great experience to work on and allowed me the opportunity to meet some very wonderful people and gain valuable knowledge.
